Positive effects of SEL: SEL has positive effects on many aspects of children’s development, including academic performance, physical, mental, and emotional health, prosocial behaviors, and citizenship (Zins & Elias, 2006). Strengthening students’ sense of community in school increases academic motivation and aspirations, and has a substantial effect on academic achievement (Brock, Nishida, Chiong, Grimm, & Rimm-Kaufamn, 2008; Zins et al., 2004), including performance on standardized tests (Malecki & Elliott, 2002)
